As the name specifies it includes five types of action or processes which eliminate vitiated doshas( vata, pitta, kapha) and malas ( toxins) from the body. Panchkarma is an important part of ayurvedic treatment because several times disease aggravation recurs in spite of using different type of medicine. The method of purification and detoxification for the prevention as well as eradication of aggravated doshas and malas from the body is PANCHKARMA. it eliminates all toxins and toxic conditions from the body and restore constitutional balance to strengthen immune system also slow down ageing processes.

RASAYAN PANCHKARMA

VAMAN (emetic therapy) :
The treatment where emetic drugs are used to induce vomiting for detoxification of the abdomen and upper part of body and expel toxic substances or waste from the body. This treatment can be followed throughout the year except in severe winter and extreme summer. it is beneficial for all those suffering from kapha and pitta disorders.

VIRECHANA (purgative therapy) :
Purgation is when medication is used to eliminate waste matter from the intestines through the anal passage. virechana is the cleansing of pitta and purification of blood toxins. It is normally given in autumn but if disease is serious then it can be done in any season.

ANUVASAN BASTI :
Ayurvedic enema treatment involves waste and toxins through anal pathway. it includes introduction of medicines in to the rectum in the form of medicated oil or oily decoctions in a liquid form to eliminate vata disorders. This enema detoxifies the abdomen and brings to it smoothness and tenderness. It increase the body mass improves health and longevity, and also enhances the complexion.
NIRUHA BASTI-
Enema that includes herbal decoction for the purification of the bowles is niruha basti. It is advisable in vata disease, upward movement of vata, got abdominal disorders, low digestive fire, heart disease etc.

NASYA (INHALATION THERAPY) :
Therapy involving nasal administration to heal disorders of the head, eyes, ears, nose and throat is nasya.

RAKTA MOKSHANA (blood letting) :Therapeutic blood cleansing is a localized action .blood letting is indicated for tumors and glandular enlargement, burning, drug addiction, toxicity of blood, hepato-splenic disorders, skin diseases, akin allergies, ulcers and so on.

RASAYAN CHIKITSA (Rejuvenation therapy)
The main aim of rejuvenation therapy is to prevent or postpone the disease and disabilities of old age. One who undergoes rejuvenation therapy has a long life-span along with enhanced power of retention, increased intellect and improved health. Such persons maintain youthfulness, that is, the ill effects of old age are not seen in their body. Their complexion becomes better. This helps to maintain the strength of sensory and motor organs. Their vocal strength and facial glow also increases. Its main aim is to maintain youthfulness in the body.

ALLIED PANCHKARMA

ABHYANGA & SWEDAN (Massage & Steam Bath) :
This is a Scientific oil massage all over the body.

SHIROBASTI :
It is a process in which oil is kept over the head for certain period with the help of a leather cap. In this procedure selection of oil depends upon the disease and condition of the patient.

PIZHICHIL (Sarwang Dhara / Oil Bath) :
In this medicated oil, decoction or milk is poured all over the body in a specific rhythmic movement. It is the combination of Snehan (oleation) and Swedana (sudation) therapy. Parishek is similar word for pizhichil. It can be used for specific part also e.g. Both Knee Joints, Shoulder Joints etc.

SHIRODHARA :
Pouring of liquids medicated oils, milk, decoction over head continuously for a specific period in specific manner is known as Shirodhara. When medicated buttermilk is used then it is called as Takradhara. Selection of medicinal oil depends upon the disease and condition of the patient.
